The Malibu nameplate was revived for 1997 as a front wheel drive car after a 14 year hiatus, replacing the Chevrolet Corsica on the N platform. It was Motor Trend's Car of the Year for 1997, was built at Wilmington and Oklahoma City and then at Lansing, and after the sixth generation arrived in 2004 the N platform car continued for fleets as the Chevrolet Classic. Its model years run from 1997 to 2003.
