For 2000 the Malibu grille was restyled with a chrome center bar holding the Chevrolet bow tie emblem, in blue or gold depending on trim, while the ocean wave badge was retained on the trunklid. The 3.1 liter V6 that had been retuned for 1999 to give 170 horsepower became the standard engine for 2000. In its fourth year the car now had the V6 as its standard engine, and its grille carried a chrome center bar instead of the five bar grille of 1997 to 1999.
