The 1984 Impala was the base full size Chevrolet sedan, sold to fleets for taxi and police work while the upscale Caprice continued to sell well. The nameplate would be discontinued after 1985, and the sixth generation frame was a shortened version of the 1970 frame. It rode on the frame introduced in 1970 and shortened for 1977, which was kept in use through the end of the B body line in 1996. In 1984 the Impala was the base full size Chevrolet sedan.
