The 1979 Impala was still the downsized body of 1977, and its coupes still had the double bent rear window that was similar to the one used for the 1987 Monte Carlo Aerocoupe. It was among the last year of the first part of the generation before the mid cycle refresh of 1980 changed the coupe window. Options included 267 and 305 cubic inch V8 engines, and in some model years these cars were also assembled in Southgate, California and St. Louis, Missouri.
