The 1965 Sting Ray was cleaned up in style and strengthened by an all new braking system with four wheel disc brakes, which came in that year. A big block 396 cubic inch engine of 425 horsepower appeared in the middle of the model year, and fuel injection was dropped after only 771 injected cars were built in 1965. A new 350 horsepower small block with hydraulic lifters joined the list. A dual master cylinder with separate fluid reservoirs for the front and rear lines was fitted on cars with power brakes.
