The 1973 Camaro added a standard impact absorbing front bumper to meet the new federal no damage standard at 5 miles per hour. A new Type LT model with a quieter, better equipped interior, full instruments and variable ratio steering was offered, power windows returned to the options list, and a console shifter replaced the horseshoe type. Power windows returned to the option list for the first time since 1969, and a console mounted shifter like the one in the Pontiac Firebird replaced the horseshoe shifter of earlier Camaros.
