In 1954 the Eldorado lost its unique sheetmetal in an effort by General Motors to lower its price in order to increase sales, and sales nearly quadrupled at a much more modest base price of 5,738 dollars, with a total of 2,150 Eldorados sold. The 1953 Eldorado had been a special bodied, limited production convertible of 532 units, and the second generation, built from 1954, shared its body with the standard Cadillac convertible.
