In 2018 the F16 X6 was in its fifth year, made at Greer alongside the X5, and sold with xDrive35i, xDrive40d and M50d versions and with the X6 M at the top. The third generation was in preparation for a reveal in July 2019, and the X7, which would become BMW's largest SUV, went into production at the same Greer plant that year. The X7 was announced as BMW's largest SUV, and the X6 stayed the sporty coupe style alternative to the X5.
