The F48 X1 was unveiled at the September 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, and later at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, as the second generation of the X1. In a break with the previous generation, which used rear wheel drive as standard, all F48 models were now front wheel drive based, marketed as sDrive, while available with an optional all wheel drive, xDrive. The F48 was shown in the second half of 2015 and was to go on sale in many markets in the next months.
