In September 2010 BMW announced that production of the E63 and E64 M6 had ended, after a five year run in which 9,087 coupes and 5,065 convertibles were sold. The M6 of 2010 was the last year of the second generation. The nameplate returned for a third and final time in 2012 as a version of the F06, F12 and F13 generation of the 6 Series. Together that was 14,152 cars of the E63 and E64 type. The line had been introduced in 2005.
