The M6 came back in 2005 as the performance version of the E63 coupe and E64 convertible 6 Series after a break of sixteen years in the model's history. It was the second generation of the nameplate and was built for only a few years. Over its five year run BMW would sell 9,087 coupes and 5,065 convertibles before it announced the end of production in September 2010. The break had lasted from 1990 until 2004.
