The long wheelbase E66, badged Li, was introduced in June 2002, joining the E65 short wheelbase car which had been launched the previous November. The first full year of sales of the fourth generation 7 Series saw the introduction of iDrive, the controversial control system that was part of the car's radical design, with the car in the 730i, 735i, 745i and 760 versions. The E65 had been launched in Germany in November 2001.
