In 1999 the E38 received a facelift in markets around the world and a twin turbocharged diesel V8 joined the turbocharged straight six, the first diesel V8 offered in a BMW. The petrol range was topped by the V12 and the car had an electric catalytic converter, as fitted by Alpina since 1995 on its B12. The L7 limousine continued as the flagship. The facelifted car was sold across all of its markets by then. Its three wheelbase lengths were short, long and the L7 Limousine.
