A turbocharged 745i went on sale in left hand drive European markets in 1979, the high performance flagship of the E23, which would continue to be sold until 1986. The 745i was a 3.2 liter turbo six that made the E23 one of the fastest saloons of its era, and its introduction in 1979 gave the 7 Series a distinct performance image for the first time. The 1979 car was the first BMW 7 Series to be offered with a turbocharged engine.
