In 1982 the engine of the 745i was upgraded to the M106, which increased the capacity to 3.4 liters, and the fuel injection system changed from Jetronic to Motronic. The 1983 model year facelift began production in September 1982, with styling changes to the front of the car. The 7 Series was thus in the middle of its first major revision. The facelift cars were then sold as 1983 models, with a new front and a wider kidney grille.
