The E36 Touring went on sale in March 1995, at first offered only as the 320i and 328i, with the 318 tds Touring arriving in July and the 318i in September. The M52 engine replaced the M50TU, with the 328i taking over from the 325i and a new 323i joining. The M3 grew to 3.2 liters, and Alpina released its B8 with a V8 engine. The Touring thus finally joined the range, completing the five body styles of the E36.
