The big E30 news of 1986 was the M3, which debuted as the first performance car of the 3 Series, built around a high revving four cylinder S14 engine. Anti lock brakes also became available on E30 models this year, and from late 1986 about 100 examples of the M325i were imported into the United States for those who wanted a performance E30 before the M3 arrived there. Elsewhere the Touring was still a year from production, and the factory convertible introduced in 1985 was in its first full year.
