The first generation 2 Series was the F22 coupe and F23 convertible, a rear wheel drive subcompact that took over from the E82 1 Series coupe and E88 convertible. The coupe premiered at the 2014 North American International Auto Show, with sales from March 2014, and the convertible followed at Paris in October. The F87 M2 appeared in 2016, a facelift came in 2017, and the G42 replaced the car in 2021. Its model years run from 2013 to 2021.
