The first Austin Sixteens were not available until 1928, when they were released on the market, with deliveries planned for March. The design was up to date, with the gearbox mounted in unit with the engine and semi elliptic springs all round. A wide range of body types was available at first, though over the years the range was simplified. The car was sold alongside the Twelve, Seven and Twenty. Its engine was bolted in unit with the gearbox.
