1968 Austin Gipsy

Automobiles

Production of the Gipsy was stopped in 1968, after some 21,208 vehicles had been sold, once BMC had merged with Leyland to form British Leyland and the Gipsy and the Land Rover were being produced by the same company. The Gipsy had also been assembled from kits at the Austin distributor's Petone factory in New Zealand, opposite the assembly plant of the Rootes Group and Chrysler Australia, which later built the Austin Maxi.
