In 1983 the 2.0 liter HL version of the Ambassador was upgraded to use the more powerful twin carburettor engine. The Ambassador of 1983 was the large family hatchback introduced in March 1982, and it was to some extent a car that bridged the gap between the smaller Morris Ital and the Rover SD1, though sales were low. The Y registration dates the model to August 1982 to July 1983. It was a hatchback.
