The Ambassador was discontinued in March 1984, after exactly two years in production, with no official replacement, and 43,427 cars were built. It had only served as a stop gap in the Austin range, and the Austin Montego, launched in 1984, followed it as the larger family car. Just 14 Ambassadors remain taxed and on the roads in Britain in 2023, out of 43,500 built. The Ambassador was a large family hatchback.
