For the 1998 model year the SLX received a restyled front end, matching the facelift that Isuzu gave the Trooper with a new grille, bumper, headlamps and front fenders. It also changed engines to the new 3.5 litre DOHC V6 from the Isuzu and Holden Rodeo, which produced 215 horsepower, and the Trooper gained a body-colored hard spare tire cover. The SLX continued to sell poorly all the same, even after the changes made at mid-cycle.
