The 2005 RL opened the second generation, launched in late 2004. It dropped the rumored V8 and introduced Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, which could send up to 70 percent of torque to the rear wheels and all of that to a single rear wheel. A 3.5 litre J-series VTEC V6 produced 300 horsepower, later restated at 290, with drive-by-wire throttle and a five-speed sequential automatic with steering-wheel paddles. Keyless entry and start were new.
