Yangwang U8

Automobiles

The Yangwang U8 is a full-size luxury SUV made by BYD Auto under its Yangwang brand and was that brand's first vehicle. It is an electric vehicle with a petrol engine acting as a range extender, and it was first presented on 5 January 2023, with sales starting in China on 18 April. Its main technology is BYD's e4 individual wheel drive, with four separate 220 kilowatt electric motors each driving one wheel for 880 kilowatts in total, which lets the car redistribute torque after a puncture and make a tank turn of up to 359 degrees. Disus-P active suspension can raise the ground clearance by 15 centimetres, the Premium Edition can wade 1,000 millimetres, and the car can float briefly as an emergency escape feature. At 1,098,000 yuan the Premium Edition was the most expensive Chinese mass-produced electric car until the U9 passed it in February 2024.
