The Willys M38A1, also called the Willys MD, was a four-wheel-drive military light utility vehicle built by Willys and then Willys Motors and Kaiser Jeep from 1952 to 1971, mostly for the United States forces until 1957 and afterwards for the Marine Corps and export. It was the first Willys jeep with a significantly restyled body, recognisable by its rounded hood and fenders, and the basis of the civilian CJ-5, the first round-fendered Jeep. It was also the first Army jeep to use the Willys Hurricane F-head 134 inline-four, taller than the wartime Go-Devil. Production totalled 101,488, with 80,290 sold domestically and 21,198 abroad, and it saw service in Korea and Vietnam until the Ford M151 replaced it from 1960.
