The Tupolev Tu-95, known to NATO by the reporting name Bear, is a four engine Soviet strategic bomber that first flew in 1952, distinguished as the only propeller driven bomber to remain in frontline service into the jet age thanks to its unusually efficient contra-rotating turboprop engines. It has served for decades as a long range nuclear bomber, maritime patrol aircraft and cruise missile carrier, and updated versions remain in Russian air force service today.
