The Sunbeam Tiger was a high-performance V8 version of the Rootes Group Sunbeam Alpine roadster, built from 1964 until 1967 and designed in part by Carroll Shelby, who had carried out a similar V8 conversion on the AC Cobra. Rootes had the assembly done by Jensen at West Bromwich in England and paid Shelby a royalty on every car produced. The Mark I used a 260 cubic inch Ford V8, and the Mark II, of which only 633 were built in the final year, the larger 289 cubic inch engine. Two modified Mark I cars ran in the 1964 24 Hours of Le Mans without finishing. Production ended in 1967 soon after Chrysler took over Rootes.
