Sukhoi Su-28

Military Aircraft

The Sukhoi Su-28 is a two-seat jet trainer produced as a stripped-down version of the Su-25UB and Su-25T, intended to replace the Aero L-39 Albatros. Sukhoi removed the targeting and weapon-operating systems, the internal guns, the wing pylons, the engine armour and the electronic countermeasures, so the aircraft cannot carry weapons, and it is used for technical skill, general flight and formation flying training as well as aerobatics. Like its parent it is robust and forgiving of heavy landings, can take off and land on one of its two engines, can operate from unpaved runways, and its engines can burn diesel-based fuel. Four PTB-800 drop tanks of 800 litres each extend its range. It is operated by the Russian Air Force.
