The Standard Vanguard Six was the last of the Vanguards, introduced at the end of 1960 with a six-cylinder 1,998 cc engine with push-rod overhead valves, the engine later installed in the Triumph 2000. Twin Solex carburettors and an 8.0:1 compression ratio gave 80 bhp at 4500 rpm, and the six was lighter than the old four, being a development based on the Standard Ten unit. Externally the only differences from the Vignale were the badging, while the interior was updated. Australian production included coupe utility and van variants. The Motor tested a Vanguard Six in 1960 and recorded a top speed of 87.2 mph and 0 to 60 mph in 17.0 seconds, with a test car price of 1021 pounds including taxes. The engine was used in the Vanguard Six from 1961 to early 1963, when the Vanguard and Ensign were replaced by the Triumph 2000.
