The Standard 9.5 hp Model S was a small side-valve four-cylinder car of the Standard Motor Company, and the Model SLS was its post-war re-introduction. Grace's Guide lists the Model S for 1913 to 1918 with a 1,087 cc engine and the Model SLS for 1919 to 1921 with a 1,328 cc engine. When civilian car production restarted in 1919 with models based on pre-war designs, the 9.5 Model S was re-introduced as the Model SLS, although it was soon superseded by an 8 hp model. The Standard Motor Club describes the side-valve SLS as Standard's best seller in 1920, rated at 9.5 hp, and records that the cylinder dimensions of 62 mm by 90 mm later used for the V1 were the same as those of the Model S before the First World War, so that the blocks could be machined on the same boring tools.
