Sovereign-class cruise ship

Passenger and Ocean Liner Vessels

The Sovereign class was Royal Caribbean's third generation of cruise ship, three vessels built at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique yard in Saint-Nazaire: Sovereign of the Seas, Monarch of the Seas and Majesty of the Seas. They were the first modern megaships and the first cruise ships with a multi-story atrium with glass elevators, called the Centrum by designer Njal Eide, and they put a whole deck of cabins with private balconies. Sovereign of the Seas, launched in 1988, was briefly the largest passenger ship in service, and the sisters followed in 1991 and 1992. Rivals such as Carnival and Princess copied the formula. Sovereign and Monarch were later sold for scrap after the Pullmantur bankruptcy, and Majesty was sold to Seajets in 2020.
