The Sopwith Pup is a British single seat biplane fighter introduced in 1916, prized by pilots for its light controls and maneuverability even though later fighters outpaced it in speed and firepower. A Sopwith Pup was also used in 1917 to make the first landing of an aircraft on a moving ship, an early step toward the aircraft carrier.
