Sopwith Aviation Company

Vehicle and Equipment Manufacturers

Sopwith Aviation Company was a British aircraft maker founded in 1912 by Thomas Sopwith at Kingston upon Thames. During the First World War it produced some of the best-known fighters of the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Naval Air Service, among them the Pup, the Triplane and the Camel, which shot down more enemy aircraft than any other Allied fighter. The company closed in 1920, and its leading staff founded Hawker Engineering.
