The Saab PhoeniX was a concept car unveiled at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, designed by Jason Castriota as one of his first works for Saab. Its name suggested a rebirth, since Saab had just been sold by General Motors to Spyker, yet Saab went formally bankrupt around the time of the unveiling. The styling was inspired by the Saab 92001 with cues from nearly every Saab made. It used the platform planned for the 2013 Saab 9-3 replacement, which was never built, with HiPer Strut front suspension, a linked H-arm rear, a hybrid all wheel drive system developed with American Axle and the IQon information system running a customized version of Android. It won the 2011 Auto Express design award. Saab owned the platform rights outright, though under ten percent of its parts came from General Motors.
