RMS Queen Mary 2

The RMS Queen Mary 2 is an ocean liner built for the Cunard Line, entering service in 2004 as the first entirely new ocean liner, rather than a cruise ship, built in decades, designed specifically for regular scheduled transatlantic crossings between Southampton and New York rather than the warm-water cruise itineraries favored by most modern large passenger ships. Built with a strengthened hull and hull form suited to the rougher North Atlantic seas the route regularly encounters, and at the time of her completion the longest, tallest and widest ocean liner ever built, Queen Mary 2 continued the Cunard Line's more than a century and a half of transatlantic passenger service after the retirement of earlier Cunard liners such as the original RMS Queen Mary. She remains, decades into her career, the only passenger ship in regular service still described by her operator as an ocean liner rather than a cruise ship.
