Raytheon T-1 Jayhawk

Military Aircraft

The Raytheon T-1 Jayhawk is a twin-engined jet trainer flown by the United States Air Force in the advanced phase of pilot training, where students selected to fly airlift and tanker aircraft learn their trade. It is the military version of the Beechjet and Hawker 400A business jet, with structural enhancements for the large number of landings a training aircraft makes each flight hour, more resistance to bird strikes and an additional fuselage fuel tank, and it is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D-5B turbofan engines. The first T-1A was delivered to Reese Air Force Base in Texas in January 1992 and student training began in 1993; 180 trainers were delivered between 1992 and 1997. A near-identical version, the T-400, serves the Japan Air Self-Defense Force and shares its type certificate. The aircraft also trains Air Force combat systems officers, and its designation repeats that of the long-retired T-1 SeaStar.
