The Rambler Six and Rambler V8 were intermediate-sized American Motors cars built from the 1956 to the 1960 model year, launched on 15 December 1955 and sold through both the Nash and Hudson dealer networks left by the 1954 merger. Designed under styling director Edmund Anderson, they defined the compact segment as it was then called, and George Romney spent 5.4 million dollars on a crash programme to bring the 1957 car forward. They came only as four-door models, a sedan, a station wagon and a new four-door hardtop, on the 108 inch wheelbase of the Nash Rambler. A 195.6 cubic inch overhead-valve six made 120 horsepower, and a 250 cubic inch V8 of 190 horsepower arrived for 1957.
