The Superbird was a one year special, a Road Runner fitted with a protruding nose cone and a high mounted rear wing for NASCAR's 1970 season. To meet NASCAR's rule that raced cars be sold to the public, Plymouth built enough for about one for every two dealers, which came to 1,920 cars. It used the front fenders and a modified hood from the Dodge Coronet to suit the nose, and was offered with three different engines, led by the 426 Hemi. Its only model year is 1970.
