The Plymouth Caravelle was a mid-size sedan that Plymouth introduced as a 1983 Canadian model and brought to the United States in 1985 to replace the Chrysler E-Class. It was essentially identical to the concurrent Dodge 600 and was Plymouth's first front-wheel-drive mid-size sedan. The Canadian line had a two-door front-wheel-drive coupe derived from the Dodge 400, itself from the Aries, and a longer-wheelbase four-door sedan derived from the Dodge 600, the car later sold in the United States. The Plymouth Acclaim replaced it in 1989, and its name came from the caravel, the fifteenth-century Portuguese sailing ship.
