Peugeot 504

Automobiles

The Peugeot 504 is a mid-size, front-engine, rear-wheel-drive car that Peugeot made from 1968 to 1983 over a single generation, mainly as a four door sedan and a wagon, with two door coupé and cabriolet twins and pickup truck variants as well. Aldo Brovarone of Pininfarina styled the sedan and Franco Martinengo of Pininfarina the coupé and cabriolet, while Peugeot designed the wagon and pickup in house. It debuted as the company's flagship at the 1968 Paris Salon and took the 1969 European Car of the Year title. Known for a robust body, long suspension travel, high ground clearance and a torque tube driveshaft, it became popular in rough terrain countries in Latin America and Africa. More than three million were built in Europe, with licensed assembly including 425,000 in Nigeria and 27,000 in Kenya, and production extended into 2006.
