Peugeot 404

Automobiles

The Peugeot 404 is a large family car that the French maker Peugeot produced from 1960 to 1975, with a truck body variant marketed until 1988. Pininfarina styled it, and it was offered at first as a saloon, estate and pickup, with a convertible added in 1962 and a coupé in 1963. It was fitted with a 1.6 litre petrol engine, with either a Solex carburettor or Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection, or with a 1.9 litre diesel, and a ZF three-speed automatic transmission was introduced as an option at the Paris Motor Show. Popular as a taxicab, it had a reputation for durability and value. French production totalled 1,847,568 cars and 2,885,374 were built worldwide, including licensed assembly in Kenya until 1991 and in Argentina, Québec, New Zealand, Australia and Chile.
