North American T-6 Texan

Military Aircraft

The North American T-6 Texan is a single-engined advanced trainer designed and built by North American Aviation. It grew out of the NA-16 prototype that first flew in 1935 and was entered in the United States Army Air Corps basic combat trainer competition in 1937. The Army Air Forces knew it as the AT-6, the Navy as the SNJ, and British Commonwealth air forces as the Harvard, the name by which it is best known outside the United States. It trained pilots of the United States and the British Commonwealth through the Second World War and was supplied to many allies under Lend-Lease, with Canada Car and Foundry and Noorduyn building it under licence. Some 15,495 were built in all variants. It later flew forward air control and counterinsurgency missions in several wars and remains a popular warbird.
