The North American B-25 Mitchell is a twin engine American medium bomber that entered service in 1941, named after military aviation pioneer Billy Mitchell and used widely across every theater of the Second World War for bombing, strafing and anti-shipping missions. It gained particular fame for its role in the 1942 Doolittle Raid on Japan, in which modified B-25s launched from an aircraft carrier for the first American air attack on the Japanese home islands.
