Nissan Sunny California

Automobiles

The Nissan Sunny California is the station wagon line of the Sunny range, sold by Nissan in Japan from 1979 to 1996 in four generations coded B310, B11, B12 and Y10. Japanese Wikipedia says it appeared in January 1979, a year and two months after the B310 Sunny itself, as the first station wagon of the Sunny series, and was at first presented as a five-door sports sedan rather than a wagon. The name and the youthful styling reflected the west-coast boom, the Japanese fashion for a California lifestyle. The second generation of October 1981 changed from rear-wheel to front-wheel drive and, because Nissan retired the Datsun brand that year, became the Nissan Sunny California. A diesel engine was first offered in 1982, and the B12 of 1985 gained a full-time four-wheel-drive version in 1986. The fourth generation, the Y10 of 1990, was based on the AD van and wagon instead of the Sunny. In May 1996 it was merged with the AD wagon and renamed Wingroad, which ended the Sunny California name after 17 years.
