The Evolution V changed many aspects of the car. The interior of the GSR was upgraded with a better class of Recaro seats, and the body kit had flared arches at the front and rear and a new aluminum rear spoiler. The car was now 70 millimeters wider than the Japanese regulated limit of 1,700 millimeters, so it was no longer considered compact. The track was widened by 10 millimeters and the wheels grew from 16 to 17 inches to accommodate Brembo brakes. Its model year runs in 1998.
