The Mitsubishi A6M Zero is a Japanese carrier based fighter aircraft that entered service in 1940, prized early in the Pacific War for its exceptional maneuverability and long range, achieved partly by minimizing armor and structural weight. It dominated Allied fighters in the opening months of the Pacific War before newer Allied aircraft designed to counter its strengths began to overtake it.
