The second series, unveiled in August 1993 in Japan and gradually reaching other markets as the earlier cars sold out, brought 16 inch wheels on the base and SL models and 18 inch chrome wheels on the VR-4. Mitsubishi marketed a retractable hardtop variant, the GT Spyder or VR4 Spyder, engineered and converted from coupe models in California by ASC, for model years 1993 to 1995.
