The Messerschmitt Bf 109 is a German single seat fighter aircraft that entered Luftwaffe service in 1937 and remained in production and frontline use throughout the Second World War. More Bf 109s were built than any other fighter aircraft in history, and it was the primary fighter of the German air force for the whole conflict.
