The Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake, internally designated X 218, is the five-door estate body of the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz CLS, series 218. It was added to the range on 6 October 2012 as what Mercedes-Benz describes as a combined estate and coupé, next to the four-door coupé of the same series, which carries the designation C 218. Both bodies are built on the platform of the E-Class of series 212 and sit in the upper class below the S-Class. Unlike the coupé, the Shooting Brake has a fastback rear with a large tailgate, and its standard equipment adds an electrically operated tailgate and rear seat backs that fold from the load area by a lever. A revised version of the whole series appeared in September 2014. At market launch the CLS 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Shooting Brake was priced at 61,761 euros, and the engine range of the series combined diesel and petrol units from four-cylinder to V8.
